Operation Happy Paws
Due to aging, a lack of resources or a minimized chance of an animal’s adoption, many animals are put down in shelters. While several shelters in the city of Austin are no-kill and against euthanization, Texas still remains the number one state in the country for animal shelter deaths.

Based on research done by Best Friends Animal Society, in 2023, around 82,681 healthy and treatable animals were killed in Texas. Austin has made several efforts to reduce the number of killings in animal shelters and turn the city into a no-kill zone, but Texas still remains the number one state for animal shelter deaths. Only 142 out of 379 animal shelters in Texas are no-kill. Best Friends' research also proves that the primary reasons for high euthanasia rates are due to a lack of budget, food shortages, and the community’s lack of interest in saving the lives of animals.

The purpose of Operation Happy Paws is to support and fundraise for local shelters. Our goal is to help them obtain more space and resources to take care of countless animals at risk of euthanization.
